Build your own PVR, December 2004,
When it comes to video quality, the ConvertX PVR offers a great variety of options. There are eighteen available recording quality profiles. Included in these are the standard MPEG-2 DVD formats such as standard play, high quality, medium quality, and so on. In addition to this, you can choose to record in MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, and (drum roll please) DivX®.

All in all I am very pleased with the Plextor, its been nice to have a 2nd tuner and not use up a PCI slot, plus the ability to do hardware DivX encoding is awesome!

Everything USB , November 30, 2004
The interface is so simple, it makes a great way to watch and archive television on your computer, with barely any learning curve. Needless to say, the Plextor ConvertX TV-402U is highly recommended, and would make a great stocking stuffer.

Plextor just does things right with the overall design of the box, it's easy of use, and the addition of DivX only sweetens the deal.

PX-AV100U

If you want to start putting those aging VHS onto DVD, or do any other capturing, I could easily recommend the PX-AV100U to those on a budget. It does take a heftier computer to run it as opposed to Plextor's hardware-based PX-M401U and PX-M402U, but if you've got the system, I'd save some money and purchase the AV100U.

Being the leading company providing quality disk burners whether its CD-ROM, DVD, or even Software, Plextor is a name we have all come to know and trust as far as the best you can buy. Of course Plextor products do come at a price, but perhaps that's of no concern when you have the ultimate guarantee of getting the best there is. Having a Plextor product is a sign of prestige. Burners, software packages, or even what we have on the bench today, a digital video converter, the edge that Plextor products have and have always had, is that they never fail to deliver exactly what you buy them for. For some that can be a hard concept, but from our experience, we have never had a single Frisbee from a single one of our previous Plextor reviews. Today at ClubOC we will push our CD and DVD burners to the side and focus on the digital video converter offerings from this fabulous company.

Video quality and sound quality was good in some cases, and excellent in others. This means that, in general, the device can produce very good quality video files. Sound conversion was as good as video conversion.

The whole point of the Plextor ConvertX is to allow the user easy and simple video conversion. It will literally save you hours and hours of encoding time, since it encodes the video file as it captures.

There's plenty of reason to like the Plextor ConvertX PX-M402U video-capture module. This flexible USB 2.0 device can capture almost any flavor of analog video and store it as MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, or even DivX AVI files. It handled our most challenging test footage with aplomb, and its picture quality was excellent for a mid-priced device.

The ConvertX was a bold move for Plextor, but I think it’s a move that will pay off. The quality of the product lives up to Plextor’s reputation in terms of usability and performance.

I was able to save 4 hours without incident. I was impressed with the quality but could only view it with my laptop and computer, since there are only a handful of DivX players on the market.

While I am by no means a professional video editing guru, I did find that the Plextor ConvertX Digital Video Converter lived up to its claim of allowing you to easily capture, edit, share, and make movies. The user manual provided with the product was educational in itself with respect to basic video editing techniques and resulted in a most pleasurable experience. I would rate this product a 9 out of 10.

Plextor has come out on top with both the PX-712A and the newly awaited PX-712SA Serial ATA models, with performance at a premium level both drives are at the top of their class

Ascully.com, July 6, 2004
Plextor has the fastest and most feature packed DVD burner on the market with the PX-712A.

Bjorn3D, July 6, 2004
I believe that Plextor strives to deliver great performance and great features in its optical drives, and the PX-712A is their current flagship product that does just that. This is one of the all-round fastest drives available on the market today.

Ben's Custom Cases, May 22, 2004
Plextor has delivered. In the race for faster drives, they are the first to market with a 12x DVD±RW.
The question that remains is, 'Could I recommend this drive?' Absolutely. Previous drives from Plextor were equally worthy, and with the inclusion of PlexTools Pro, and all the features that go along with it - it's an incredible product. I had always thought there would be no replacing my Plexwriter Premium, but now that this drive carries the abilities of the Premium, I'm not so sure. It is worth considering as the only optical drive you would ever need. Fast, quiet, accurate, reliable - really.

Its Digital Extraction speed is great for those wanting to archive their CD collection into Mp3s and provides excellent audio fidelity. Both DVD and CD read speeds are very fast, making the overall drive a great package.

Plextor has pulled out all the stops on this one, kept its industry-leading position, by being the first to introduce a SATA interface.

Club Overclocker.co, July 26, 2004
As for quality and long term use, I've gone through more than a dozen burners over the years and only Plextor has stood the test of time and daily abuse. All other brands that I've used have seldom lasted more than a year while the Plextor drives and burners keep on going.

"Plextor has once again outdone themselves and I am more than impressed for the third time. The abilities of this drive far surpass that of any other that I have used..."

HardwareHell.com, Feb 28, 2004
This is the best drive I have ever seen, and best of all it is by Plextor. As I said before in my previous Plextor review, they are known for quality hardware.

It's opening a package for the first time and saying "Wow! This baby is awesome!".
